Located off the coast of Maharashtra in western India, Sindhudurg Fort overlooks the Arabian Sea. History of Sindhudurg Fort
During the reign of Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Maratha monarch, this fort was constructed. This fort was built to stifle the growth of the Janjira and the Siddis and to fight the influence of foreign rulers, namely the Dutch, English, Portuguese, and French traders.
In 1656, Hiroji Indulkar led the process of receiving this fort. It is currently a historic site for this fort.
How to Reach
Travellers must board safety boats at Malvan and cross the strait between the Padmagad and Dhontara islands to get to this fort. We can reach the Sinhudurg Fort’s jetty in fifteen minutes.
Travellers can hire guides to take them inside the jetty. There are both state and private buses that travel from Ratanagiri, Pune, Mumbai, Kolhapur, and Panaji to Malvan. Malvan is well-connected to other major cities and towns.
