One of the several hill forts in the state of Maharashtra is the iron-built Lohagad fort. Situated around 52 kilometres northwest of Pune, it is close to the lovely hill station of Lonavala and is a popular tourist destination in Maharashtra.
Elevated 1033 metres above sea level is Lohagad. By minute range, the fort is connected to the nearby Visapur fort. This fort was ruled by the Maratha emperor for the longest duration, and the Mughal Empire ruled it for a mere five years.
This fort is located southwest of Visapur Fort and rises to a height of 1,033 metres above sea level. The Western Ghats are the home of the fort. The Lohagad fort views over the Pavana reservoir, which is located south of the mountain range, and the mountain separates the basins of the Pavana and Indrayani rivers.
The range reaches a spur with buttresses called Vinchukata because of its form. The Lohagad gates are undamaged and in fine condition. It is one of the most well-liked stops on a Maharashtra trip.
History of Lohagad fort

The Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Satavahanas, Yadavas, Bahamanis, Mughals, Nizams, and Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj were among those who took possession of it before it was ultimately taken in 1648 C.E. In 1670 C.E., he was forced to give up the fort by the Purandar Treaty. Later, Nana Phadnavis, the Peshwa, used this fort as his home.
