India’s Squad has been announced for the upcoming India tour of South Africa 2023-2024
India will be playing 3 T20I’s , 3 Odi’s and 2 Test matches in this series, starting from 10th december 2023.
KL Rahul will once again take the captaincy for the ODI team, while Suryakumar Yadav will remain in charge of the T20I team and Rohit will be leading the Test team.
The white-ball portion of the South Africa tour, which begins next month, will not feature Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. It is to note that After losing to England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in Adelaide last year, both Kohli and Rohit have not played in any T20 International Cricket.
Due to an ankle injury sustained at the most recent ODI World Cup, Hardik Pandya, who was leading the format following the T20 World Cup last year, is currently out.
T20I
For the T20I tour of South Africa, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj were all re-added to the team. Shivam Dube, Avesh Khan, Axar Patel, and Prasidh Krishna are the players who make room for them.
With the return of Jadeja, Chahar, Kuldeep, and Siraj, the bowling attack will have a lot more experience for the T20Is, even though the batting lineup is mostly the same. This might be a sign of what the team management and selectors are considering for the T20 World Cup, which is less than six months away.
With the exception of IPL2024, India has just six more Twenty20 international matches left before the T20 World Cup in 2024, following the conclusion of their current five-match Twenty20 international series against Australia on December 3. On December 10, 12, and 14 they played three matches in South Africa; in January of the following year, they hosted three matches against Afghanistan.
ODI
With only Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Kuldeep remaining from the ODI World Cup roster, the ODI team faces many more changes. First-ever ODI calls-up were received by Rinku Singh and B Sai Sudharsan.
Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh, Arshdeep Singh, and Deepak Chahar were also back in the ODI side.
Test
Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer have returned to the Indian Test team for the two-match series against South Africa. Ajinkya Rahane has been dropped and Virat Kohli has opted out from the tour’s white-ball leg.
Rahane, who was India’s Test team vice captain during their July West Indies tour, was left out of the equation by Iyer’s comeback.
Mohammed Shami is also returning, though his inclusion is dependent on his fitness. He was sidelined for India’s most recent Test series in the West Indies in July.
KS Bharat, one of the two keepers in the West Indies, had no place in the team with Rahul chosen as a wicketkeeping option.
Fast bowlers Jaydev Unadkat and Navdeep Saini were both dropped out of the West Indies tour team; however, fellow quick Mukesh Kumar, who made his debut in that series, was retained.
Shubman Gill will continue to bat at No. 3, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, a breakout star who scored a century on his Test debut in the West Indies, is anticipated to start with Rohit.
India will play two Test matches in South Africa starting on December 26 in Centurion and January 3 in Cape Town. This is India’s second series in the World Test Championship cycle 2023–2025.
India last participated in a Test series in South Africa in December and January in 2021–2022, during the Covid-19.
