The Name Sandeep Reddy Vanga itself a brand it does not need any introduction. With only one movie he made entire movie lovers of the nation wait for his next movie. Undoubtedly, Animal Movie starring Ranbir Kapoor & Rashmika Mandanna is the only cinema in 2023 that was the most awaited one across India. Exceptional trailer cut has increased the hype and expectations to the next level. With a run time of more than 3 hrs 20 minutes, Movie finally released on 1st Dec 2023 and let us check how the movie has turned out. Let’s get started and here’s our Animal Movie Review.
Story wise it is wafer thin storyline and nothing new. Had this film been made by some other director this film would have been a routine commercial entertainer. But it is Sandeep Reddy vanga, how can he disappoint his loyal fan base with regular ingredients. The character of Ranvijay singh played exceptionally by Ranbir Kapoor is more than times extension to the character of Arjun Reddy or Kabir Singh. He is mean, wild, violent, unpredictable, and most importantly he is alpha male. This character has no boundaries, no limits. His love towards his father is limitless. He does things that come to his mind. He does not care for anyone. This character is going to remain in our memories for more years to come. Every sister definitely needs a brother like him, every parent wants a son like him, every wife wants a husband like him, but his impulsive and aggressive nature causes more fear than feeling safe with him. This character has such beautiful multiple layers woven around it. Those who are involved with the character journey of ranvijay singh from the first frame can easily understand his intentions.
Ranbir Kapoor delivers his best right from the start to end. I can surely say that no other actor would have played this role better than Ranbir Kapoor. We see only Ranvijay singh Son of Balbir singh not Ranbir Kapoor in the entire movie. Even though you are not a fan of Ranbir Kapoor or you didn’t watch any of the movies of Ranbir Kapoor then also you start liking him for his exceptional performance. The way he transformed from charming person to angry young man to raging is flawless.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga has once said in a interview that he wanted to show what is actually a violent film after he received a backlash for ‘Kabir singh’ tagging it as a most violent film to the date by some of the critics. He meant every word and Animal is many times violent than his previous works. He gave so called intellectual critics very big work this time. Like Arjun reddy, Ranvijay never slaps a women instead slaps him for many times. He touches her feet more than two times. Ranvijay respects his sister, mother and wife at every possible moment. Not even in single frame, he abuses a woman. So, it would be interesting to see how so-called intellectual critics and pseudo feminists would investigate this.
As we discussed earlier, not the story, it is the character of Ranvijay that drives the film forward from the first scene. Those who complain about lag or who want the movie to be trimmed for a few minutes, please do not watch this movie. Film with such a long duration is something different and will be enjoyed by everyone to the maximum extent. Just because this film was told in this manner with long duration, we are finding this movie is a different one.
Animal Movie Direction
Director Sandeep Reddy vanga delivers once again. Every scene looks very normal but depth in those scenes creates curiosity among the viewers. He succeeded in making the audience feel the love, anger, rage, madness and sadness of Ranvijay singh. There are many good scenes in the film which we needs special mention. The cousins reunion scene, introduction of bobby deol character, whole climax episode, ragging episode in first half and the post credits scene to mention a few. The whole interval episode around 30 minutes is amazes us. The way he introduces machine guns with made in india tags gives goosebumps. The whole episode starts with a simple underwear issue. The way underwear discussion included in that action episode does not makes us feel cringe. There are lot of high moments in the film despite being regular and age old revenge drama. There are not many twists and turns in the movie, most of the times it is very predictable but never bores you. That is the power of Sandeep Vanga’s exceptional writing talent and directional skills. Unlike other directors, who were compromised on lot of things just because of many external factors. Sandeep reddy vanga has all guts to go against all the odds and delivered what he exactly wanted to showcase the audience. I cannot stop myself from writing about this man. Such a brilliant and great craftsman he is. He sets an example to remaining directors as long as you are confident about your film and don’t care about any other factors. Only those who are impatient can complain about lag, otherwise it is super fine.
Other Actors Performances:
Coming to other artists, Anil Kapoor has done well. Raskhmika mandanna has got a good role with proper screen time and she did exceptionally well. The chemistry between Rashmika and Ranbir Kapoor has worked. The only complaint is bobby deol character. It has a lot more to tell and to show. His character has got a nice set up but somehow Sandeep reddy vanga has not focused on this role as did for ranvijay singh. Had he focused on a bobby deol role like Ranbir Kapoor the impact would have been far more better than this. Somehow it looked like a half-baked one.
Animal Movie – Technical Departments
Songs are composed by various music directors; they are not chartbusters like Arjun Reddy and Kabir singh but apt for the situation. Background score by Harsha Vardhan Rameswar is another highlight after Ranbir Kapoor acting and Sandeep direction. It haunts you and some scores will play in our mind for a long time. The emotions are carried out well by the background score. While the action sequences are brutal and visuals of Amit Roy are sharp and beautifully suited the tone of the film. There are many close up shots in the film which brought the brilliance of all actors. Entire credit must be given for Amit Roy.
Final Verdict for Animal Movie:
On the whole, Animal is a wild and intense action drama that gives you a mad ride. It is definitely not a perfect film but the experience it gives entertains you. This is unconventional action that has bold dialogues, wild action episodes and not regular run time. Before going to watch this one, please keep all these things in your mind and don’t complain about it later. Like Arjun Reddy, Animal is also another experience that stays in mind for a longer period of time and at the same time it is debatable among everyone. You cannot ignore it
